Tips and tidbits for September’s final week:
۞ Watch for Jack in the Box to introduce a new cheeseburger value menu this week, perhaps reviving the $4.99 All-American Jack deal it offered around this year’s Super Bowl in February.
۞ Casual-dining chain Max & Erma’s is testing four new burgers, including the Greek-influenced Athena and the El Diablo (shown at right), topped with blue-cheese-and-celery slaw and a spicy mayo. Columbus Business First reports that the Ohio-based chain, bought from bankruptcy by American Blue Ribbon Holdings, has the new burger menu in 10 stores.
۞ Back Yard Burgers this week will unveil its new Turkey Burger. FYI to BYB, CKE Restaurants execs last week acknowledged that this month’s ground-turkey recall (not involving its suppliers) hurt sales of Char-Broiled Turkey burgers at Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr. Overall sales for both brands were positive in its just-ended Q2, however.
۞ Burger King continues to market its BK Shots mini burgers to women in Singapore. Now available in new, nose-wrinkling Marinara Fish and Crispy Onion Beef varieties, the BK Shots are marketed online with the tag “They only look the same to men.” In Hong Kong, meanwhile, Burger King has a better idea: Flame-Grilled Pork Sausage Burgers.
۞ Brace yourselves, Clevelanders: LeBron James (right) appears in a TV spot for McDonald’s latest Monopoly promotion, beginning Tuesday. Golfer Michelle Wie earns her sponsorship money in another spot for the game.
