Carl’s Jr. Redefines the Burger Shot

Carl’s Jr., which never has minded causing a bit of controversy, should ready itself for protests next week when it declares, “It’s never a bad time for bourbon” in a TV spot (below) for its new Kentucky Bourbon Burger.carlskybourbonburger The commercial depicts a bourbon-craving surgeon who can’t wait to wrap up his work and gobble a huge Bourbon Burger.

The menu addition comes on the heels of Burger King’s creation of a Bourbon Whopper for its Whopper Bar unit, but Carl’s Jr. isn’t the sort to stop at just one burger. In addition to the basic Bourbon Burger ($2.99), the line includes a Double Bourbon Burger ($3.99) and Six Dollar Kentucky Bourbon Burger ($4.89). All are topped with a O-proof, sweet Kentucky bourbon sauce, along with bacon, garlic-pepper onion straws, pepper-Jack cheese, tomato and lettuce.

It is outrageous that the Bourbon hamburger ad implies an impared physician/surgeon is enjoying his hamburger. There is nothing funny about a drunk surgeon…ask the folks who have been damaged by an impared doctor. Will absolutely not patronise Carls Jr until this ad is stopped.

    ARE YOU INSANE CARLS JR!!!!?????
You think it is funny to even insinuate that a surgeon is craving alcohol when alcoholism is such a REAL problem in the medical industry? I will NEVER EVER in my life again give you one penny of my consumer dollar. This commercial is disgusting and I hope you lose your business for it.

Why don’t you advertise the heroine burger and depict an airline pilot craving it in flight? Or how about a pregnant mother with a crack burger?
Totally tasteless and offensive — and I’m a rock producer so congratulations because it takes a lot to offend me!

  • Chad S.

    It’s a fast food restaurant folks… Wow.

    I don’t mean to rile anyone, but . . . seriously?

It’s a joke. And a fairly funny one.

I feel like people aren’t allowed to laugh at anything anymore without offending someone. If we’re not allowed to laugh at this, then what? My father was an alcoholic. He quit, and now he jokes about it all the time. Why? Because he has skin. Because he can take a joke.

Soon we won’t be able to laugh at anything or anyone and we’ll just sit around and talk about great everyone is. And then I’ll jump off a building.

    Sincerely,
    A Bisexual, Vegan, Female Hippie
(And if I can take a joke, everyone should!)

Some people really need to get a life.
Carl’s has some of the best ads.
I wish the food was as good as their ads but it is not the worst out there
Not everyone can be In-N-Out or Tommy’s
