Monday News-Nugget Catch-Up for 9/14

istock_ketchup► So…. Seems we were wrong about Hardee’s next menu addition. The new burger will be announced today and blogger WouldIBuyItAgain.com says his Hardee’s counter-worker source tipped that it will be a “Big Hardee” or similar version of sister-chain Carl’s Jr.’s “Big Carl.” Hold the mozzarella.

► But for something truly unexpected, consider the P’tit Plaisir Sauce Salsa now on the menu at McDonald’s in France (€1.75 or about $2.55). Tortilla chips and salsa on a burger? If your college French remains strong or if you have Google Translator, read fastandfood.fr’s review (spoiler alert=yes, those chips get soggy).

► In Australia and New Zealand, McDonald’s Big Picture Design Challenge invites young designer/artists to create “images for any surface or area at McDonald’s restaurants” that define and promote the two nations’ diversity.

► Continuing the global and McD’s themes, The Economist offers this chart showing how many minutes consumers must work to afford a Big Mac in their city. Here in Chicago, for example, I’d need to work just 12 minutes. Assuming there were revenue from this.

► British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver will spend two to three months in Huntington, W.Va., teaching citizens of “America’s unhealthiest city” to eat more wisely. It will result in an ABC series next year.
