What’s with Steak ‘n Shake and burger names?
The Indianapolis-based chain has rolled out two new burgers, dropping coupons this past weekend for a Western BBQ ‘n Bacon Steakburger and something called a Wisconsin Buttery Steakburger. That second one is more than a little suggestive of Prairie du Sac, Wis.-based Culver’s trademarked ButterBurger name. Wisconsin Buttery Steakburger? It’s such an odd, awkward name that you wonder what Steak ‘n Shake is thinking if it isn’t the sincere flattery of imitation. We haven’t heard back yet on a “Got a problem with that name?” query to Culver’s.
In March, Steak ‘n Shake ran afoul of Burger King for its Steakburger Shots mini burgers. Burger King filed a lawsuit and Steak ‘n Shake shifted into reverse, deciding it liked the name Shooters much better.
Steak ‘n Shake’s couponed circular promotes its 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. “Happy Hour” when prices are halved on all beverages, including milk shakes. It also touts a new e-gift card that customers can customize by uploading a personal photo and writing a sentiment.

It is butter…on a burger. Yes it tastes good but is it really necessary to discuss any aspect?
